Description

 

The residency is conducted at Amherst Family Practice, a private out-patient clinic located in northern Virginia. The residency’s emphasis is ambulatory care with opportunities for experiences in outpatient and acute care settings, as well as in transitions of care. The residency provides broad-based experience in delivering quality pharmaceutical care to patients with chronic medical conditions and assuring appropriate medication use by patients and healthcare professionals in outpatient settings. Residents will participate in clinic-driven projects and evaluation of current clinic services to develop leadership and management skills to learn pharmacy’s role in an outpatient healthcare setting. A teaching certificate program is available through Shenandoah University.  The overall resident goal is to develop a competent pharmacist able to provide pharmaceutical care to patients with chronic medical conditions working with other healthcare providers and able to serve a healthcare practice as the expert on drug information, application of pharmacotherapeutic principles, and appropriate medication use and prescribing.
