John Hasty Scholarship

John was a co-founder of the Virginia Pharmacists Aiding Pharmacists Program (VAPAPP). He chaired that committee until he accepted the position as Director of the Department of Health Professions. While he was chair person for VAPAPP, John and members of the VAPAPP committee protected the public and saved the lives of hundreds of pharmacists through interventions, treatment recommendations and monitoring. Lives would not have been saved without John’s leadership and compassion in forming VAPAPP. In 1986, he was awarded the National Pharmacist of the Year Award as a result of his desire and passion to help pharmacists with substance use disorder. In recognition of and remembrance for all he did through VAPAPP, we have named the scholarship to attend the APhA Institute on Substance Use Disorder the JOHN HASTY SCHOLARSHIP.

The scholarship is funded by the Research and Education Foundation through the VAPAPP Committee and is available to one student and faculty member from each school of pharmacy in Virginia. For more information, interested students and faculty should contact
