Summary:

Adverse experiences, both historical and current, experienced by minoritized people create mistrust of health care providers, scientists, and others. This can lead to avoidance of necessary health care diagnoses and services and contribute to poor health, avoidable morbidity, and mortality. What can faith communities and pharmacy personnel do to lessen mistrust and draw individuals into a positive engagement with those entrusted with their care?

Learning Objectives:

Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician:

  1. List some of the theological reason patients avoid medical care
  2. Describe how reasons for avoiding medical care may differ by tradition
